There is a size past which glass is the wrong answer regardless of budget. It is heavy enough to need hardware most walls do not have, it is a genuine hazard if it comes down, and it is the reason large framed pieces arrive broken.

Acrylic glazing solves all three at once: roughly half the weight, no shards, and it survives a courier. It scratches more readily than glass, which matters on something handled and barely at all on something screwed to a wall above head height.

The frame itself changes too. Corners are reinforced rather than simply underpinned, the backing is braced across the span so it cannot bow, and the hanging hardware is rated well above the finished weight rather than to it.
