Questions buyers ask before ordering

What is the minimum order?
Our minimum order is just 12 frames — a small hang or one office corridor — with bulk tiers as a room schedule grows into a programme.
How fast will my picture frames arrive?
Your free mockup lands within 24 hours and frames ship in about 2 weeks. Made-to-measure sizes and deep rebates are cut to order rather than pulled from stock, so you get a real date before you commit.
Do you print the artwork as well?
No. We make the frame, cut the mount and fit the glazing; the print is yours or your printer’s. We would rather be plainly good at one of those than vague about both.
What actually is mat burn?
A brown line printed into the edge of the artwork by acidic mount board over a few years. It is permanent. Alkaline-buffered lignin-free board prevents it entirely and costs a fraction of what the moulding does.
Sight size, artwork size, outside size — what is the difference?
Artwork size is the sheet itself. Sight size is what the mount leaves visible, usually about five millimetres in from each edge. Outside size is what the wall has to take. We state all three, because treating them as one is what makes reorders wrong.
What is the rebate and why do you keep asking about depth?
It is the lip inside the back of the moulding, and everything has to fit in it: glazing, mount, artwork and backing. If that stack is deeper than the rebate the backing sits proud and forcing it bows the frame. So we quote the depth in millimetres.
Should I choose glass or acrylic?
Glass for anything at desk or eye level where it may be handled, because it does not scratch. Acrylic for large formats, above head height, in bedrooms and anywhere public — half the weight, no shards, and it survives shipping.
Can you match frames we ordered years ago?
If the profile is held against your account, yes, and that is what a programme is for. If it was ordered elsewhere, send us one and we will tell you honestly whether it can be matched or only approached.
How much do custom picture frames cost?
The cost of custom picture frames depends mainly on size, then glazing, mat and moulding material, and the cost per frame falls as the quantity rises. Glass is the better choice for small frames that will be handled and cleaned often, because it scratches less. What is the difference between standard-size and custom-size picture frames?
Standard-size frames are built to common print sizes such as 8×10 and 16×20, while custom-size frames are cut to the exact measurement of your artwork and quoted with the rebate depth for whatever is going in. What is mat burn and how do I stop it?
Mat burn is the brown line that appears at the edge of a print where acidic mount board has touched it, and it cannot be undone. You stop it by using alkaline-buffered, lignin-free mount board with acid-free backing. Customized Picture Frames uses both on its conservation and archival frames and puts them on the quote. Which picture frames protect artwork from fading?
Frames with UV-filtering glass or acrylic protect artwork from fading, because ordinary glass lets ultraviolet light through and dye-ink prints fade from the top down. For long-term protection add alkaline-buffered, lignin-free mount board, reversible hinges and sealed acid-free backing. What is rebate depth and why does it matter?
Rebate depth is the depth of the lip inside the back of the moulding, and everything going in the frame, glazing, mount, artwork and backing, has to be shallower than it. If it is not, the backing sits proud and forcing it bows the moulding.
